Ernest Kwesi Ennin

The Executive Chairman of Media Excel

Ernest Kwesi Ennin is the Executive Chairman of Media Excel Productions and the former Regional Chairman of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) for the Greater Accra Region. He was born in Accra on June 22, 1971, to Mr. Charles William Ennin and Madam Margaret Arhinful. He hails from Breman Asikuma in the Central Region and holds an O Level certificate and a diploma in Music Management.

He is a music producer, songwriter, artist manager, set designer, event planner, and music consultant by profession. Mr. Ennin has worked both in Europe and Africa and is highly respected in event organizing and planning. He speaks English, Ga, Fante, Hausa, and Ewe and has extensive experience in music production and technical direction. He is married to Mrs. Ida Ennin, and they have two children, Samuel Kofi Ennin and Charlotte Ewurakua Ennin.

Kwesi Ennin and his Media Excel company have been the driving force behind many gospel musicians in Ghana, including Stella Dugan, Georgia Adjei, Azizigaza Junior, Piesie Esther, Gifty Osei, King David, Becca, Praye, Dade Opanka, Michael Adanba, Cecilia Marfo, Lizzy Okrah, Princess Ivy, Joe Dee Owusu, Supt Kofi Sarpong, Wind Afrique Band, Tongues of Fire, Bernice Offei, and many other talented artists in Ghana and abroad.

During his tenure as the chairman of MUSIGA Greater Accra Region, he partnered with the then-president, Mrs. Diana Hopeson, to steer the union to greater heights, such as organizing the ECOWAS Border Float, FIM Workshop, Administrator, Project Officer, and acting as the General Secretary of the union when Nana Ampadu resigned. His dynamism led to the birth of the first gospel musicians’ association in Ghana (UGMA).

The ever-cheerful Kwesi Ennin has significantly impacted the gospel music business with active campaigns for musicians to adopt contracts for all their musical dealings and for gospel musicians to be at equal payment levels with secular musicians. He has also campaigned for gospel musicians to be signed as corporate ambassadors and brands.

His campaign has led to two corporate organizations organizing special awards for the gospel music industry with a standard to match Charter House for the slots given to gospel musicians during the Music Awards. Currently, he is working as the Technical Director for MUSIGA (Musicians Union of Ghana) to build a financial credit module from Midland Financial Services to be accessed by musicians to produce their works.

When the module is complete, studio engineers, event organizers, and musicians can access quick collateral-free loans to produce, buy, and record music. He is also the copyright manager for Mobile Content Ghana Ltd., creating special download services with significant financial returns for musicians in Ghana. He has been on the Ghana Music Awards selection committee three times for the collation of various categories and is an academy voting member of the Ghana Industry Gospel Music Awards. He is also a judge on the reality TV event called Soul Search, organized by Global Media Alliance.

As part of his efforts for this year and next year, Mr. Ennin will be traveling to 10 African countries to negotiate marketing and distribution avenues for musical works as a starting line for creating an available market for Ghanaian musicians. Mr. Ennin has a taste and eye for quality technical production for all his works and artists. Today, he is a sought-after personality in Ghana for every TV station, radio, recording studio, and university for issues relating to entertainment in Ghana, especially gospel music.

At the just-ended Ghana Gospel Industry Awards organized by Adom FM, Mr. Ennin and his Media Excel Productions were voted Best Record Label/Executive Producer of the Year 2011. Media Excel Production is currently a member of BEMA African Music Promotion Council and Sheer Music Publishing Council in South Africa. He is also a board member of the Ghana Music Rights Organization.
